Colt Brennan said that it is embarrassing to throw an NFL interception

August 23, 2009

Asked to describe what it feels like to throw an NFL interception, Colt said:
“It’s, like, embarrassing. It’s kind of like when you trip and fall when you’re walking, and everyone’s like, ‘I saw that,’. You’re like walking, all cool, and you do that stumble and everyone turns [to] figure out what’s wrong with that guy. You kind of catch yourself and try to not make it look bad. That’s exactly the feeling it is. Just utter embarrassment….Last year I threw nothing but touchdowns. This year I’ve thrown nothing but picks. I mean, that’s football. That’s the way the cookie crumbles….That’s football. I’ve got two more games.” (Washington Post)

The senior Warriors will decide tomorrow if UH will continue doing the ha’a before games

August 23, 2009

About how the players will decide if they will continue to do the ha’a, Mac said:
“It’s up to the players. I mentioned it in the meetings. I told the players it was their decision to do it or not do it.” (HA)

HA Note: “The players have not practiced the ha’a during spring training or the 2 1/2-week training camp, which ended yesterday.”

About how they are focused on their first game instead of the ha’a, Rocky Savaiigaea said:
“Right now we’re not thinking about the ha’a. We’re thinking about the first game. That’s our only focus.” (HA)

HA Note: “The Warriors performed the haka, a traditional Maori war chant, before the 2004 Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl. In 2006, offensive tackle Tala Esera and safety Leonard Peters created UH’s version of the haka. The Warriors debuted that haka during the warmup period before the road game against Alabama. The following year, defensive tackle Keala Watson, safety Keao Monteilh and linebacker Brad Kalilimoku created a ha’a — a Hawaiian-influenced Polynesian chant — for the Warriors.”

Mac said that he likes the ha’a, but:
“right now, that’s not my big concern. It’s not on the practice schedule.” (HA)

Other Warrior Quotes (Mrs. McMackin’s Wahine clinic, Scott Enos wins the kicker job)

August 23, 2009

About how Scott Enos beat out Brian Blumberg for the starting kicker job, Mac said:
“I’ll say it: Scott Enos is our kicker. Period.” (HA)

HA Note: “Luke Ingram, who has been bothered by a sprained right ankle, will be the long-snapper. Running back Inoke Funaki will be the holder.”

HA Note: “Former UH safety Kent Kafentzis underwent what is believed to be successful surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his left kidney. The procedure was considered to be dangerous because the tumor was impacting a major artery. Kafentzis now will await the results of a biopsy to determine his next treatment.”

About how the first phase of her Wahine Football Clinic will be at the Stan Sheriff Center, Heather McMackin said:
“We’ll talk about how coaches and players prepare for a game. We’ll show how a scouting report is put together, and how they formulate a game plan.” (HA)

About how the second session of her clinic will be at Ching Field, with several stations that each will have a position coach and players, Heather McMackin said:
“The players will demonstrate techniques.” (HA)

About how coaches and players will offer instruction on the technical requirements for each position, Heather McMackin said:
“If they want, they can learn how to throw or catch a football. If not, they can enjoy listening.” (HA)

HA Note: “The $10 pre-registration fee includes a football manual and refreshments. Walk-up registration is $15.”

The Aloha Stadium parking gates will open an hour earlier this season

August 23, 2009

About how opening the parking gates an hour earlier will be great for tailgating and could reduce traffic problems, JD said:
“With the parking gates opening an hour earlier, we hope this enhances our fans’ tailgating experience. We’re also hopeful this will alleviate some of the traffic around the stadium leading up to kickoff. We’re glad Aloha Stadium management accommodated this request and we hope our fans take advantage of the extra tailgate time while at the same time acting responsibly. We’ll try this out for a year and will evaluate it if it was successful.” (HA)

HA Note: “The Lower Halawa Parking Lot (Gates 3 and 4) will open five hours and 30 minutes prior to kickoff, while all other lots (Upper Halawa, UH Reserved, and Kamehameha) will open four hours and 30 minutes before kickoff.”

Colt Brennan praised Chase Daniel and talked about his INT yesterday

August 23, 2009

Praising the great job that Chase Daniel did in their preseason game yesterday, Colt said:
“He did a great job man. He made that first completion, you could see him start to gain his confidence and everything, and then all of a sudden he hit a couple more completions and he found some rhythm and he was rolling. And then by the time we got that turnover, he was just pounding it in there, so it was a good thing for Chase. For his first game, that’s a great feeling. I remember that from last year, it was a great feeling.” (Washington Post)

About his INT in yesterday’s preseason game, Colt said:
“Preseason, you try to take chances, you try to punch it in when you drive down there and I kind of shot myself in the foot. I had a good little drive, and unfortunately, dude, I just [needed] one play back….When it left [my hand] I was like, ‘Oh, we got this…oh…no.’ It was kind of one of those things where I thought I had it and I tried to squeeze it in there….Just bummed I threw another pick.” (Washington Post)
