Quotes about Colt’s ankle

September 17, 2007

About the status of his injured ankle, which will keep him out of practice the next few days but he hopes will improve enough so he can start Saturday’s game vs. CSU, Colt said:
“It’s really sore, pretty beaten up. The black-and-blue is going down. I think I have to rest it up the next couple of days. I think I should be out there moving around on it pretty good by the end of the week.” (HA)

“It’s just a real solid sprain. I pushed it. I shot it up and pushed it, and it’s obviously very swollen today, and very sore. I think if I rest it up the next couple of days I’ll be good to go by Saturday.” (HA)

HA Note: “Brennan suffered the injury while playing catch with wideout C.J. Hawthorne during Friday’s walk-through practice at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. Brennan said he heard a “pop,” and that his right ankle soon began to swell. The “pop” was likely from a blood vessel, Brennan said, which is why “it swelled up on the field.” “

Colt said that he would probably undergo an MRI this afternoon:
“to make sure it’s good.” (HA)

Colt said that he would likely be on crutches:
“just to stay off of it.” (HA)

About how he could have to miss the game, Colt said:
“If I’m held out, it shouldn’t be a problem. It will be a great time for Tyler Graunke to come in and get some experience. I think I’m going to play but I wouldn’t be surprised if I get pulled early.” (HA)

About Colt’s status for the game, JJ said:
“I’m going to make him right. I don’t want this to linger. I figure by Thursday he’ll practice. But he’ll play.” (HA)

About the time off Colt will take to let his ankle heal, QB coach Dan Morrison said:
“It’ll probably do his arm and legs good.” (HA)

About how Colt played on his injured ankle, Morrison said:
“He’s a pretty tough hombre.” (HA)

“It was pretty rough for him. That’s his plant foot. But he was determined to tough through it. Your feet are your whole foundation for any athlete who moves around. The ankle probably swelled up a bit, but he was walking OK (this morning when the team arrived home). He’s a pretty tough kid.” (HSB)

About playing injured, Colt said:
“It’s what football is all about. I’ve always prided myself as a tough kid. That’s why I was excited for that game. I thought it would be a great moment to step up and show how tough I was.” (HA)

“I knew if I shot it up and hobbled around on one foot and made plays then it would do a lot for the team and the crowd. And that’s what I wanted to do.” (HSB)

HA Note: “Brennan played most of last year with a lumbar strain, eventually finishing with the greatest statistical season by a quarterback in NCAA history.”

About how Colt can play with injuries, Morrison said:
“He can play through these things. He’s a tough kid, wiry strong. He gets whacked around, and gets right back up.” (HA)

Quotes about the UNLV game

September 17, 2007

Praising Hawthorne’s play at UNLV, JJ said:
“C.J. Hawthorne made some unreal catches.” (HSB)

About the improved play by the D after the first UNLV drive, Karl Noa said:
“Coach (Greg McMackin) got on our butts and everybody stepped up.” (HSB)

Quotes about staying on the mainland during road trips

September 17, 2007

About how they will stay on the mainland when they have back-to-back road games, JJ said:
“The thing I noticed the most when we got to Vegas (Friday afternoon) we were ready to play. We weren’t jet-lagged or all of that kind of stuff. We were on their time. We gave ourselves the best chance to win two games.” (HA)

HA Note: “Jones said he chose Houston instead of a West Coast city because Houston is a stopover en route to Louisiana. He also worked out an arrangement with Rice University to practice at its stadium. Rice’s equipment staff did the Warriors’ laundry.”

About their road trip, JJ said:
“It was a great bonding experience. We did a lot of good things together. These two games were going to define who we are, and I think it has. We’ve got some excitement now, not just in our locker room but in the town. It could be a fun year.” (HA)

Proud of his team, JJ said:
“It’s tough to win on the road. I’m proud of the guys — two road wins and staying on the road for 12 days. It will go a long way.” (HSB)

About how they are behind for their game preparation due to the road trip, Dan Morrison said:
“(Yesterday’s) another big work day. It takes 4 hours to (input) the tape and we’ve got to do Charleston Southern and Idaho. Usually we’re two weeks ahead.” (HSB)
